Bloody Good Time is Bloody Interesting

If you make it a point to stay on top of the latest gaming news then you’ve probably heard about the upcoming title, Bloody Good Time, a game developed by Ubisoft for the Xbox Live Arcade. Since its announcement on February, many gaming fanatics have wondered what’s in store for them when the game finally comes out.

Fortunately, you can now have a glimpse of what awaits you.

If you love B-movies with a lot of blood and gore then Bloody Good Time will surely interest you. Basically, the gameplay will be on the set of a cheesy B-movie and all the characters will be involved in some kind of “kill or be killed” drama. Not only that but the weapons of murder are actually quite creative—ranging from staples like swords and machine guns to more ingenious weapons like frying pans and golf clubs. Naturally, creative killing styles will be rewarded by points and “fame”.

Fellows who like to see a bit of skin on their games will be glad to know that the game will involve your usual female characters clad in skimpy outfits. After all, where would horror movies be without the obligatory bedroom scene and half-naked girl being chased by a murderer?

Other game details like player’s ability to drink beer and sit on the toilet in the gameplay makes Blood Good Time bloody interesting as well.

Read Dead Redemption Makes it Big

When the game Red Deed Redemption was released, industry experts (including Michael Pacther) expressed their doubt about the game’s success. Several months later, it seems that the tables have turned. Red Deed Redemption was not only a best-selling critical hit but it’s now also in the running to receive the award as the biggest launch of 2010 in the UK. In fact, the game has done so well that it defeated other major releases such as Final Fantasy XIII.

This was reported by HMV, a popular retailer in the UK. It was reported that the game is doing so well that it is expected to sell 300,000 copies in a span of two days. Jonathan Hayes from HMV attested to the title’s astounding accomplishment that beat out other more hyped-up games such as Heavy Rain and Battlefield.

Pre-orders are available at HMV’s website. Along with Red Deed Redemption, you can even download The War Horse for free. If you wish to make your purchase the traditional way, HMV stores will also welcome you with free Xbox products. Free copies of “3:10 to Yuma” are also available for every purchase of PS3 products.

Want to know if Red Deed Redemption is really as good as critics say it is? Surf online and look for some credible reviews.

Games Too Expensive, Says Namco Bandai

If you like to complain how video games are getting more and more expensive then you are not alone. In face, even Namco Bandai, a publisher who sells downloadable content also admits that today’s video games are getting quite expensive.

According to Vice President Olivier Comte, it’s highly recommended that gaming companies should consider lowering the price of video games in order to accommodate the needs of consumers. Comte said that recent prices of game titles may sound fair to manufacturers (what with development costs and such) but he admits that even those prices are simply too much for the average gamer.

Comte suggested lowering prices from £40 to at least half of this. However, he also says that when this does happened, games won’t be able to provide 15-hour game plays. Instead, the hour would be reduced to about give hours of game play and the rest can be supplied by DLC.

The results of such talks are something that gamers would definitely watch out for. Several titles were recently released this week, among them the much-awaited Prince of Persia and Alan Wake. Each title costs a whopping $180, not a small price especially in these times of economic hardships. Most gamers are saying that it’s the gaming companies’ responsibility to find a way to make their games more affordable instead of counting on consumers to have the money to afford these products.

Between the two developers of Call of Duty, there is no doubt that Treyarch is considered the weaker one. However, this might not be the fact for long. Mark Lamia who is the head of the Treyarch studio was recently interviewed and he talked about some pretty exciting things. He said that the developing studio will be advised by a couple of ex black ops operatives to help in the development of the upcoming title Call of Duty: Black Ops.

One of these two men is Major John Plaster from the Studies and Observations Group which, during the Vietnam War, was run by the CIA. Plaster described how it was to work for the SOG and also shared some of his experiences fighting in the Vietnam War. Plaster also shared what was then considered classified information, including details about his training and tactics that his team used for battle.

The other former black ops member was Sonny Puzikas who was in the Soviet special forces. Like Plaster, Puzikas shared his training experiences and also educated the development team about the weapons used in the special forces. With all the inside knowledge that Treyarch is gaining from these two experts, there is no doubt that the upcoming game will have some seriously interesting gameplay.

Winery in Napa: Latest Project of Capcom Chairman

If you’re a videogame fanatic then the name Capcom probably brings images of zombies and martial arts experts to your mind. After all, the company is famous for giving the world the classic Street Fighter and equally popular Resident Evil. Now it seems that the head of Capcom, Kenzo Tsujimoto, plans to try something else. And no, we’re not talking about a new gory videogame. Tsujimoto’s new project is actually less violent and it’s none other than winemaking in Napa.

Yup, the Capcom chairman will be opening a winery in the famous region of California. And if you think that he will be naming his wine after characters in his videogames then you are mistaken. Wines will be named after grapes and not ass-kicking, zombie-killing characters. Tsujimoto was even hesitant to use his name in marketing the wine brand, and decided to stick to a more discreet “Kenzo Estate” for his wine brand.

Kenzo Estate manufactures a large selection of wine but perhaps the most famous is the Rindo red wine, which has a steep price tag of $75 per bottle.

Most people don’t doubt that Tsujimoto is a whiz when it comes to selling games but many are asking if he can sell expensive liquor in a time of recession. However, Tsujimoto insists that his wine already offers plenty of value in a market where each wine bottle can cost hundreds of dollars. Good point.

Movie adaptations of videogames usually get a lot of unpleasant reviews. And in most cases, these reviews are justified. Bad acting, horrible special effects and overall bland plots usually do not do the videogame justice. However, Mortal Kombat is a movie that deserves none of these reviews. If you’ve seen the 1995 movie and you love videogames then Mortal Kombat is probably something that you consider a classic. Sure, the movie got cheesy at times but for the most part, it was fun and Paul W.S. Anderson did a great job on staying faithful to the videogame.

For years, there have been talks of a third installment but that’s all it’s been so far—merely talks. When the 3D Gaming Summit was held recently in Los Angeles, gaming fanatics wanted to know when Anderson might start working on the third film.

Anderson told reporters that he “loved making the movie”. More importantly, he was already into the Mortal Kombat videogame even before he started working on the movie adaptation. He even talks fondly about playing the game back in his hometown in England. Unfortunately, Anderson confessed that no one has approached him yet with a proposal of another MK movie, although he assures fans that he will jump at the chance if an offer comes up especially since it was the movie that launched him in Hollywood.

So movie studios out there, Mortal Kombat fans are united in their plea: make the offer!

If you’re an Xbox 360 fan then you’re probably aware of the rumors that have been flying around about a certain slimmer and more lightweight Xbox 360 console model.

Finally, Michael Pachter who is a well-known analyst in the gaming industry has finally spoken about the rumor. He says that a slimmer model of the Xbox 360 is definitely a reality. People are already calling it Xbox 360 slim after the Playstation Slim but Pachter assures fans that Microsoft will be going with a different name.

Pachter also shared his views about the possibility that a cheaper Xbox 360 version may be appearing on the market soon. This cheaper console might also have a new processor and will work with a different graphic card. He says that the new unit may allow gamers to save as much a $30.

However, instead of slashing off the price of the new console, Pachter says he believes that it will be packaged instead with either a hard drive of 250 GB or an actual Natal. Pachter believes that Microsoft wants to establish Natal as their future platform.

Naturally, Pachter’s words are yet to be proven since the Microsoft team remains mum about the subject. However, Pachter is a reliable source and gamers might soon see his words coming true.

PS3 Game Kick-Ass Teaser Released

Those of you who have been excitedly anticipating the release of the Kick-Ass Playstation game had much to be happy about this week. The game just made its appearance at the Playstation Network where you can experience the first ten minutes of the game.

As you probably know, the downloadable game was inspired by both the Kick-Ass movie and the Kick-Ass comic franchise. However, it’s quite evident the game was largely based on the comic book. The game also bore plenty of similarity to the Marvel Ultimate Alliance of Activision. Players will have a choice of playing three characters—Big Daddy, Kick-Ass and Hit Girl. As the game progresses, the player will also manage to earn points in various areas such as special abilities and defense.

The game’s controls are pretty straightforward. If you would like an easy game that involves plenty of jumping, kicking, hitting with a couple of special moves thrown in then you won’t be disappointed.

One possible drawback of the game has to do with its upgrade features, it seems that upgrading means you only get to improve the special abilities that you already have instead of getting new abilities. Hopefully, the remaining gameplay offers something different.

Nintendo to Finally Release Black Wii in the US?

If you’ve been lusting after that black Wii console that was launched in Japan but made no appearance whatsoever in North America, then you’ll be glad to know that your fantasies may just be coming true.

Rumor has it that the black version of Wii will finally be sold in the US this May, giving gamers a chance to finally buy a match for their black remotes and controllers. The sleek black console was released in Japan in the summer of last year, followed by a release in Europe. Needless to say, numerous North American gamers were protesting over being “ignored” as a market.

Recently, sources from GameStop, Target and Future Shop are claiming that the new Wii will soon be heading for both the United States and Canada next month. Aside from the black console, the new Wii package will also include an add-on of Wii MotionPlus and a Wii Sports Resort copy. The whole package will run you about 200 bucks.

Naturally, techie journalists and gaming aficionados contacted Nintendo to confirm the rumors. Unsurprisingly, Nintendo offered no comment and reiterated that the company does not entertain speculations. However, for those of you who are keeping their fingers crossed, the rumored dates of release will be the 9th of May for the US and the 23rd of May for Canada.

It’s now been a year since the Western world expressed its outrage over the controversial Japanese game entitled RapelLay. If you are familiar with this game (even though you haven’t played it since it’s basically obscure even in Japan), you will know how its plot goes. Basically, you (the player) come across a girl in a subway station and proceed to play the game by sexually assaulting her and her relatives, even managing to get her pregnant in the end.

Recently, a 14-year old girl named Elena Lyons took the latest shot at the videogame. Apparently, Lyons was a victim of sexual assault at the tender age of eight so it’s no wonder that a game like RapeLay can affect her in a traumatic manner. However, some people are saying that although Lyons’ case should not be taken lightly in any way, speaking about the game may further increase its popularity and encourage more people to look for the game.

Lyons goes on to say that rape is not an issue that should be joked about and the videogame should be stopped.

However, RapeLay was already banned from Japan and is not allowed to be officially sold in the US. This is the reason why some may think that Lyon’s statements actually provide more publicity for the game.
